R.A.M.P.

I met a person by the name of Dan Singley. He was kind enough to spend an hour with me over coffee, a few days after i’d heard him speak to a group of small business owners. He changed the way I think of printing or other marketing promotions my clients may choose.  Whether I’m helping clients with SEO/SEM plans, a direct mail campaign or a print-to-web campaign, I think of Dan.

Listening to Dan speak, I was in awe at how he simplified the marketing process It has nothing to do with company size. His plan may be applied to any campaign. He said nothing new; nothing that hasn’t been said or written about. He even admits that what he presents is readily available information. But somehow, people parse the information and get confused. Their direction becomes lost. So, being a teacher, I thought I’d post this information. Here is a simple way to think of how to prepare your message. It’s the “R.A.M.P.” method. Thanks, Dan.

R = Results. You must incorporate accountability into your campaign. What are your intended results? To me, the “R” is the reason you want to create a campaign.

A = Audience. You must understand who specifically you are trying to reach. Why be specific? Because you need to that audience to take a specific action that’s pertinent to them. The “A” could be thought as the specific action you want your audience to take.

M = Message. What you say must be relevant and important to the audience. It must include both components. Otherwise they won’t take action. (Remember “A”?)

P = Promote. This is the tactic you utilize to get your message out there. Whether you need specialty items, broadcast, print, sky writing, E-marketing or video conferencing. You need the appropriate promotional vehicle for your target audience.

So think about your best audience, how are you going to reach them and what exactly do you need to say to get them to take action? Always measure your success (and failures) against expectations. If you don’t succeed the first time, rethink the process. Re-do and measure against past tactics. More success will be derived through this process.
